Start a file protection replication session

Network-attached storage is a file-level storage architecture that makes stored data more accessible to networked devices.

About this task

See Understanding PowerMax File for storage systems for an overview of PowerMax File.

To give priority to few of the replication sessions, you may have stopped the data transfer between the source and destination using the stop replication workflow. This would result in accumulating the data on the source side. You can use the start replication workflow to restart the data synchronization from the previous replicated point. Start workflow causes the restart of the data synchronization from the production site to the non-production site which can happen when the direction of replication is changed. Depending on the amount of data to be synchronized, the session may initially be in “SyncInProg” state but eventually move to synchronized (synchronous replication) or consistent state (asynchronous replication).

Two possible failures cases may occur during the Start Replication Session, In the first case. the replication session enters the PartialActive state, and an Error dialogue box is displayed. The PartialActive state allows you to complete the workflow by retrying a Start replication workflow. In the second case, if any failure occurs during the Start Replication Session workflow when attempted from the new source, the Replication Session enters into the PartialReprotected state, and an Error dialogue box is displayed. This partial state allows the user to complete the workflow by retrying the start replication workflow.

NOTE: NAS Server inconsistency is possible. Before starting the replication session, take a backup of the remote NAS Server.

Steps

  1. Select a storage system that supports PowerMax File.
  2. Select Data Protection > File Protection.
  3. Select REPLICATION > REPLICATION SESSIONS.
  4. Select a session and click Start.
  5. Click OK.
